Google’s Penguin has Launched
Google’s “Penguin Update” has gone live as of April 24th, 2012 marking “Another step to reward high-quality sites”, says Google. This is an algorithm update (change) targeting over-optimization and black hat webspam and is intended to promote high quality content thus reducing webspam. Targets of the Penguin include:
- Keyword Stuffing
- Link Schemes
- Over Optimization of Content
- Spun Articles
The Penguin Update will only reach 3% of search queries. But those 3% of queries are more highly spammed keyword queries. So we have already seen dramatic search result page differences on high volume/traffic related terms.
